In ways both obvious and unseen, caregivers perform the work of nourishing, carrying, dressing, playing, and protecting the bodies of others. Our bodies are the tools we use to support the livelihood and wellbeing of those we raise/teach/support. These rituals are performed on repeat as part of our routine, and yet this care is labor and deserves recognition.

As part of our residency at Roman Susan, we will accumulate and document gestures of care to bring visibility to this important work, and to create connections between the myriad of isolated actions of caretaking that happen the world round. You are invited to attend a 30-minute session where we will work with you to perform your gesture of care for the camera. We will collect video documentation to display in the gallery during our residency at Roman Susan. It will be archived following the residency period.

These movement sessions are open to folks of all backgrounds and experiences who tend to the needs of others. This includes parents, teachers, elder workers, personal care assistants, domestic workers, community organizers, therapists, social workers, gardeners, medical professionals, and beyond. Please join us for this workshop and make your contribution.
